Terms and Conditions

Who these terms cover
These terms apply when you use OrangeReturns as a client. OrangeReturns is a workspace for preparing a South African individual income tax return (ITR12). It is not the South African Revenue Service, and it is not itself your tax practitioner.
Questions about these terms can be sent to hi@orangecascade.tech.
What OrangeReturns does
OrangeReturns lets you:
- answer questions about a tax year and receive a document checklist,
- choose a registered tax practitioner, or continue with one who referred you,
- see that practitioner’s fee before you pay,
- upload the documents they need, and
- review the prepared return and approve it in writing before it is filed with SARS.
Your practitioner prepares the return. Nothing is filed with SARS until you have given that written approval. A SARS refund is not guaranteed. The result depends on your income, the tax already paid, the deductions and credits that apply, and SARS’s assessment.
Your account
You need an account to start a return. Keep your sign-in details to yourself, and tell us if you think someone else is using your account. You must be the taxpayer, or someone the taxpayer has authorised to act for them. One return is kept for each tax year we can open.
Information you give us
You are responsible for the answers and documents you provide. They should be complete and accurate for the tax year. If something is wrong or missing, tell your practitioner before you approve the return. OrangeReturns and your practitioner may rely on what you submit.
Your practitioner
Practitioners on OrangeReturns are independent. They are not employees of OrangeReturns. The engagement is between you and the practitioner you choose. Their professional duties, including their duty to SARS and to their controlling body, stay with them.
Fees and payment
The fee you pay is the amount shown before you pay. Paying engages the practitioner. We hold that fee until the return is filed. Payment does not mean every document is already in, and it does not mean the return is ready to start if required documents are still missing. How payment, holding and refunds work is set out in the payment terms.
Documents
Upload only documents that relate to your return. Do not upload someone else’s information unless you are allowed to share it. We describe how documents are used in the privacy policy.
Before you pay, you can allow OrangeReturns to use AI to analyse those documents so the figures for your return can be suggested. That permission is only for completing this tax return. Your practitioner still reviews the return, and nothing is filed until you approve it.
Acceptable use
You may not use OrangeReturns to:
- give false information to SARS or to a practitioner,
- interfere with the service or another person’s account, or
- upload malware or content you have no right to share.
We may suspend access if these terms are broken, if we need to protect other users, or if the law requires it.
Liability
OrangeReturns provides the workspace. Your practitioner is responsible for the tax work they perform. We do not exclude liability that South African law does not allow us to exclude, including liability for gross negligence or fraud. Otherwise, OrangeReturns is not liable for a SARS assessment, penalty or interest that follows from information you or your practitioner supplied, or from a decision SARS makes.
Changes and law
We may update these terms. The date at the top of this page will change when we do. If you keep using OrangeReturns after an update, the new terms apply. These terms are governed by the laws of South Africa.
